Thank you once again for reporting this issue. An internal work order, #18867, has been generated and sent to the sanitation department to assess as soon as possible. Updates will be posted as information from the crew becomes available.
The Sanitation Supervisor reports that trash barrels on Broadway are emptied six days (Mon-Sat) a week and street sweeping occurs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The supervisor assessed the area for trash receptacle overflow and after inspection did not find any problem areas. Currently, there are no plans to increase the number of trash receptacles on Broadway. However, the supervisor will continue to monitor and reassess trash flow on Broadway.
If there is a particular area that you feel is littered, please specify.
A good section of Broadway from the intersection of Cushman and Broadway to Rite Aid is constantly littered with trash. The Post Office always has trash out front. Suggestions: ask stores and restaurants to put barrels outside their establishments and start ticketing people who litter. Have the sanitation supervisor check out any bus stop area on Broadway (and most have barrels) and you'll find trash all around them. Please don't try to tell me it's the MBTA's responsibility to clean it. I'm talking about the sidewalks near the bus stop. Not the actual bus stops themselves. I found a piece of trash -just a piece of plastic someone threw over by Rite Aid. As experiment, I walked with the piece of plastic down Broadway to see where I could find a barrel. The next barrel wasn't until City Hall. There was still empty cigarette packs right next to the Mayor Dan Rizzo barrel in front of City Hall. And no we shouldn't have to cross a street for a barrel. You can't even cross Broadway in the crosswalk without getting ran over. That's something else entirely. More barrels are just one solution. If we want to clean up Broadway, we need to get stricter with the fines for littering. What are other cities and towns doing to cut back on the littering of their main streets? Maybe we should looks at the places that get it right and use them as an example. I find it hard to believe that the supervisor didn't find one piece of trash on Broadway. It's pretty filthy on a regular basis.
The issue was closed on 10/8/15 with a response. When posting comments after the issue has been closed a box with options (i.e. reopen issue, etc...) needs to be checked off otherwise the status remains closed. A copy of your post from 10/12/15 was forwarded to the sanitation supervisor for reference. The sanitation supervisor will continue to monitor and reassess trash flow on Broadway.
"If you feel there is a particular area you feel is littered, please specify." - I responded and no acknowledgement after that. It was just closed with no further response. Which means it was not acknowledged. A response before just closing would be better next time. Thanks.
